Mike is an amateur artist who took up art later in life having done little other than the odd sketch or water color once a year.

He was lucky enough to be living outside of Boston and linked into the Quincy Art Association, a group of great enthusiastic artists who arranged to have a live model class once a week. This started him down the road of focusing on portraits.

After a few years he move to Providence and joined the Rhode Island Urban Sketchers. Yet another group of talented artists who travelled to different corners of the state every Sunday for 2 hours of sketching. Here he learnt how to work in ink and watercolors.

After two years, he moved to Brooklyn and yet another genre thanks to the tutelage of Sara Woster and her Painting School, challenging her class each week to try a radical new genre.

Through all of this, his love of portraits has remained. He works in oils, acrylics, pencil and, thanks to David Hockney’s YouTubes, the iPad.

He hopes you enjoy some of his work.
